Coventry City have completed the permanent signing of winger Loum Tchaouna from Burnley, the club confirmed on Saturday. The 22-year-old Frenchman has agreed to a five-year contract with the newly promoted Premier League side, and will play under manager Frank Lampard. The transfer fee was not disclosed by either club.
Tchaouna joins Coventry after just one season with Burnley, where he scored three goals and provided one assist in 32 appearances across all competitions. Burnley were relegated to the Championship after finishing 19th in the Premier League last season, prompting Tchaouna to seek opportunities elsewhere. He initially joined Burnley from Lazio last summer.
Prior to his time in England, Loum Tchaouna developed through the youth academies of Strasbourg and Rennes. He made 10 appearances for Rennes before a loan spell at Dijon, where he featured in 27 matches, scoring twice and registering two assists. A move to Salernitana in Italy followed in 2023, where he recorded 6 goals and 3 assists in 35 games. He then spent a season with Lazio, scoring 3 goals and providing 1 assist in 32 appearances.
Tchaouna has also represented France at the under-20 level, earning 10 caps and scoring one goal. He expressed his excitement about joining Coventry, stating he will bring “energy, determination and leadership” to the team. He also highlighted his experience playing in Ligue 1 and Serie A as valuable preparation for the Premier League, which he described as “the best Championship in the world.”
The signing addresses a need for attacking options for Coventry as they prepare for their return to the Premier League, providing Lampard with another player capable of contributing goals and assists. Tchaouna’s versatility and experience across multiple European leagues could prove to be a significant asset for the club as they navigate the challenges of the top flight.
