Cristiano Ronaldo seeks Real Madrid's César Palacios for Almería
Cristiano Ronaldo is pushing for Almería to sign 21-year-old Real Madrid prospect César Palacios this summer, according to reports in Spain. The Al-Nassr forward, who recently became a minority shareholder in the Spanish second-division club, is reportedly keen for the club to sign the young attacking midfielder.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Ronaldo has 'demanded' the signing of Palacios as he takes an active role in shaping the squad of the Segunda División side. Ronaldo became a co-owner of Almería in February, and the club, currently second in the league, are on course for promotion to La Liga.
Palacios, 21, has been a standout performer for Real Madrid's Castilla side in the third tier this season, scoring 13 goals and providing three assists. He has also made three first-team appearances for Real Madrid this season, all from the bench. The Spanish youth international is considered one of the brightest talents in the club's academy.
Almería's sporting director, Pablo Azcon, is said to have taken Ronaldo's advice "very positively." The Portuguese legend, who has been hands-on since his investment, is reportedly focused on recruiting young, technically gifted players with high potential. Palacios, with his contract at the Bernabéu expiring in 2025, fits the profile. Real Madrid, however, are yet to decide on the player's future, with a new contract, a loan move, or a sale with a buy-back clause all considered viable options by the European champions.
A loan deal is seen as a strong possibility, allowing Madrid to retain control of the player's development. The club has employed a similar model successfully before, as seen with Nico Paz, who was sold to Como with a buy-back clause before his value skyrocketed. Almería faces competition for Palacios, with several clubs reportedly monitoring the situation. The Spanish under-21 international's future is expected to be a key topic as Madrid plan their summer transfer activity, with a decision likely after the conclusion of the current season.
