Michaël Cuisance is set to rejoin Ligue 1 with RC Lens, four years after departing the French top flight, according to Sky Sports Germany and confirmed by L’Équipe. The 26-year-old midfielder will sign a four-year contract with the club, with the signing expected to be completed on Friday.
Cuisance currently plays for Hertha Berlin, a 2. Bundesliga side, where his contract runs until 2029. Sky Sports reports the transfer fee to be around €4 million, plus a percentage of any future sale. The France international previously had a spell in Ligue 1 with Olympique de Marseille during the 2020-21 season, joining on loan from Bayern Munich, but the club did not exercise their option to buy him.
Since leaving Bayern Munich, Cuisance’s career has included stints at Venezia (2021-2023), a loan spell at Sampdoria (2023), and a loan to VfL Osnabrück in the 2. Bundesliga (2023-2024). He joined Hertha Berlin ahead of the 2024 season, where he has been a regular contributor, making 69 appearances across all competitions and recording nine goals and 11 assists in the league.
Cuisance initially came through the youth ranks at Nancy, making his professional debut in 2013. He then moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2017 before joining Bayern Munich in 2019. While at Bayern, opportunities were limited, leading to the loan spell at Marseille. Lens will be hoping Cuisance can rediscover the form he showed earlier in his career and contribute to their ambitions in Ligue 1. This move provides Lens with an experienced midfielder as they prepare for another season of competition.
