Daniel Peretz uncertain on Bayern future as Southampton loan impresses
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Daniel Peretz has expressed uncertainty over his future at the German champions, despite describing himself as a huge fan of the club. The 25-year-old Israeli international is currently on loan at Southampton, where he has kept seven clean sheets in 18 EFL Championship appearances this season. In an interview with Sport BILD, Peretz stated he is placing his trust in a higher power regarding his next career step, while remaining in contact with Bayern's squad, particularly goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
Peretz's comments highlight the uncertain path for a player who joined Bayern from Maccabi Tel Aviv in the summer of 2023. His move to Southampton last summer, designed to provide regular first-team football, has proven successful as the Saints challenge for promotion back to the Premier League. His form between the posts has been a key factor in their campaign, making 18 appearances so far.
When asked about his future beyond this season, Peretz was philosophical. "I don't know yet. Right now, I'm enjoying playing every game," he told Sport BILD. "Then we'll see what the future holds. I have complete faith that God will lead me to the place that's best for me. If that ends up being Bayern, I'd be incredibly happy. If not, then so be it." He added that regardless of the outcome, he believes it will be for his ultimate good.
Despite the uncertainty, Peretz maintains strong ties to Munich. He revealed he remains in regular contact with members of Vincent Kompany's squad, singling out Manuel Neuer for particular praise. "I'm especially in contact with Manuel Neuer. He's a great guy, very humble. From the very first second I was at Bayern, he helped me," Peretz said. "And he's not just any goalkeeper, he's the best of all time. We're in regular contact, we text each other after the games. He congratulates me on good performances."
The goalkeeper's affection for his parent club remains undimmed. "I like the team; for me, they're the best in the world. I really enjoy watching them play," he said, while also noting he has other friends within the squad. His immediate focus, however, remains on Southampton's promotion push, where his performances have bolstered his reputation and likely increased his options for next season.
For Bayern, the situation presents a familiar dilemma with a player who is third in the pecking order behind Neuer and Sven Ulreich. The club must decide whether to integrate Peretz as a long-term understudy, seek a permanent sale, or arrange another loan. For Southampton, a permanent move could become an attractive option should they secure Premier League football, providing they can meet Bayern's likely valuation. Peretz's development this season has put him in a stronger position, but his ultimate destination remains to be determined by the "higher powers" he referenced.
