Jonathan David, the Juventus forward, has recaptured form with the Canadian national team, scoring a hat-trick against Qatar in the World Cup. This performance has sparked renewed discussion about his future, particularly as Juventus consider potential transfer options, including a move for Randal Kolo Muani.
David struggled for consistent playing time and goalscoring form during his first season in Turin, but has demonstrated his capabilities on the international stage. Speaking to RSI Sport, David highlighted the differences between playing for club and country, stating, “I think it’s always different when you play with a club or with the national team, because first of all they are different teams. The style of play is different, so everything changes a bit.” He also spoke about the upcoming match against Switzerland, acknowledging the quality of Inter defender Manuel Akanji, whom he has faced in Serie A.
Despite a challenging first year at Juventus, David has expressed his desire to remain with the club. He stated, “If I stay at Juve? Yes, I have a five-year contract, so as far as I’m concerned, I’m still here.” This suggests a willingness to compete for his place in the team and attempt to turn his fortunes around in Turin.
However, Juventus are reportedly open to offers for the 23-year-old, valuing him at approximately €35 million. The club’s sporting director, Cristiano Carnevali, will ultimately decide on David’s future based on potential offers received in the coming weeks. David arrived from Lille with high expectations, but faced difficulties adapting to Italian football and a struggling Juventus side. His recent performances at the World Cup offer a glimmer of hope that he can rediscover the form that attracted Juventus to him in the first place, whether with the Bianconeri or elsewhere.
