Davide Ancelotti has publicly expressed his desire to manage AC Milan, stating he feels prepared to take on the role. The declaration came during an appearance on the Italian television program, Tripletta, according to La Gazzetta Dello Sport. Ancelotti, son of current Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, revealed his ambition to lead the Rossoneri, indicating a long-held aspiration to manage the club.
Currently without a senior managerial position, Ancelotti most recently served as an assistant coach to his father at Real Madrid, contributing to their Champions League success. Before that, he managed Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga for a season and a half, achieving a mid-table finish before being dismissed in March 2021. His managerial career began with a stint at Parma, where he took charge during the 2018-19 Serie A campaign.
The timing of Ancelotti’s statement is notable, as AC Milan are currently evaluating their managerial options following a disappointing Serie A campaign. While the club has not officially commented on Ancelotti’s interest, his public declaration places him firmly in contention should the Milan hierarchy decide to pursue a change in leadership. The club finished outside the Champions League qualification spots, leading to increased scrutiny of the current coaching staff.
Ancelotti’s familiarity with Italian football, coupled with his experience working alongside one of the most successful managers in the game, could be seen as advantageous qualities for Milan. The club has a rich history of employing renowned tactical minds, and Ancelotti’s pedigree aligns with that tradition. His appointment would likely be viewed as a progressive step, potentially signalling a shift towards a more modern, tactically flexible approach. Should he be appointed, Ancelotti will be tasked with restoring Milan to its former glory and competing for Serie A titles and European success.
