Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly showing serious interest in Fiorentina midfielder Nicolo Fagioli, with a potential move becoming more likely after the player changed agents. The development comes as Roberto De Zerbi assesses potential additions to his squad ahead of next season, with Spurs’ Premier League status seemingly secured for another year.
Tottenham’s transfer plans are progressing despite their recent struggles, currently sitting two points above the relegation zone with two matches remaining. Several reports in the Italian press have indicated De Zerbi’s desire to bring Fagioli to North London this summer. The 25-year-old has been a standout performer for Fiorentina in a disappointing season for the club, contributing three goals and three assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.
According to Firenze Viola, as cited by Sport Witness, Fagioli’s decision to change representation strongly suggests he is considering a move away from Fiorentina. Tottenham 'appear to be lining up' a bid and are 'getting serious' about securing his signature, a prospect that would likely please De Zerbi, who is known to admire the player.
The potential pursuit of Fagioli also comes amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Joao Palhinha, who is currently on loan at Tottenham from Bayern Munich. Spurs have a £27million option to make the deal permanent, and while Palhinha initially struggled for form, he has re-established himself under De Zerbi. However, TEAMtalk insider Graeme Bailey reported yesterday that the Portuguese midfielder may be considering a return to his homeland, with Sporting CP, Benfica, and Porto all expressing interest.
De Zerbi is reportedly a ‘huge admirer’ of Palhinha’s experience, tactical discipline, and leadership qualities, and has communicated his desire for the midfielder to remain at the club internally. Should Palhinha ultimately depart, Tottenham’s interest in Fagioli is expected to intensify. Regardless, the Fiorentina midfielder is considered a key target as De Zerbi looks to reshape the Tottenham squad.
