Real Madrid are targeting both Manchester City defender Ruben Dias and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Joao Neves as part of an ambitious summer overhaul, according to a report in El Debate. The potential signings coincide with an agreement reportedly in place between the club and Jose Mourinho to replace Alvaro Arbeloa as manager, though the appointment is currently on hold pending club elections.
Both Portuguese internationals, Dias and Neves, are clients of super-agent Jorge Mendes, who is reportedly offering both players to Los Blancos. Neves, 29, has been a long-term target for Real Madrid, viewed as a solution to strengthen their midfield options. PSG are reportedly reluctant to sell the player, and would likely demand a fee in the region of €80 million plus bonuses should they agree to a deal.
Dias, currently at Manchester City, is also believed to be keen on a move to the Bernabeu. In addition to pursuing Dias and Neves, Jose Mourinho is also reportedly keen on bringing Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni to Real Madrid. Mourinho, who previously managed Inter, is said to have “personally convinced” the 27-year-old Italy international to consider a move to Madrid. Barcelona had previously shown interest in Bastoni, but have since withdrawn from the race. The impending arrival of Mourinho appears to be shaping Real Madrid’s transfer strategy, focusing on experienced and established players to immediately challenge for trophies after a trophy-less season.
