Krépin Diatta has left Monaco as a free agent following the expiration of his contract, the club confirmed on Tuesday. The 27-year-old right-back arrived at the Principality club from Club Brugge in January 2021 and spent five and a half seasons with Monaco, making 143 appearances in all competitions.
Diatta established himself as a key player during the 2022-23 season, featuring in 43 matches across all competitions. However, his playing time diminished in subsequent seasons, becoming a valuable squad player with over 20 appearances in the last two campaigns. Despite his contributions, he did not win any major honours with Monaco, with a Coupe de France final defeat in 2021 representing the closest he came to silverware.
The Senegal international has earned 64 caps for his country, scoring twice, and was a regular starter during the recent World Cup. His performances on the international stage could prove crucial in securing his next club. Monaco will be looking to rebuild their squad under a new manager, with Diatta’s departure creating space for potential new signings.
Diatta’s departure leaves a void in Monaco’s squad, although his recent reduced role suggests the club has already begun to plan for life without him. The player now has the opportunity to seek a new challenge and potentially play a more prominent role elsewhere, with several clubs likely to be monitoring his situation. His experience in Ligue 1 and European football will make him an attractive option for teams seeking a versatile full-back.
