Borussia Dortmund are seeking a transfer fee between €20 and €25 million for Brazilian full-back Yan Couto, potentially pricing Como 1907 out of a permanent deal, according to Sky Germany. The Serie A side, recently qualified for the Champions League under manager Cesc Fàbregas, were linked with a move for Couto last week, but Dortmund’s valuation presents a significant obstacle.
Sky Germany reports that Como are only able to consider a loan arrangement for the 21-year-old. The club’s financial limitations prevent them from matching Dortmund’s asking price, despite their newfound status as a Champions League competitor. This development suggests a permanent transfer is unlikely unless Como’s financial situation changes.
Couto joined Dortmund permanently last year for a fee of €25 million, signing a long-term contract that runs until 2030. However, the Brazilian struggled for consistent playing time last season, largely due to the excellent form of Julian Ryerson, who provided 17 assists. This lack of regular minutes could contribute to Dortmund’s willingness to consider a loan, even if a permanent sale is preferred.
While not a central figure in Niko Kovač’s plans, Dortmund will be reluctant to release Couto without securing a substantial fee, reflecting his potential and the investment they made in his acquisition. A loan move would allow Como to benefit from Couto’s services without a significant financial outlay, while Dortmund could reassess his value after a season of regular football. This outcome allows Dortmund to maintain some control over Couto’s future, potentially opening the door to a more lucrative sale in a subsequent transfer window.
