Borussia Dortmund sporting director Ole Book has suggested that striker Serhou Guirassy could remain with the club this summer, despite growing speculation linking him with a move away. Book stated during a recent media briefing that he believes Guirassy is keen to stay at Dortmund and contribute to the team’s future.
Guirassy joined Dortmund in January 2023 from Rennes on loan with an obligation to buy, and has quickly become an important player for the Bundesliga side, scoring 13 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions. His goalscoring form has naturally attracted attention from other clubs, but Book emphasized the club’s desire to retain the Guinean international.
“I also have the feeling that he's genuinely keen to stay at Borussia Dortmund and can help us,” Book explained. He further highlighted Guirassy’s consistent performances and the “substantive discussions” they have had about football, indicating a positive relationship between the player and the club.
While Book affirmed that Dortmund does not actively plan to sell Guirassy, he acknowledged that the club would consider “exceptional offers” that may arise. He also noted that this approach applies to other players within the Dortmund squad, recognizing the unpredictable nature of the transfer market. Book hinted at further transfer activity throughout the summer, even with the recent signing of Joane Gadou.
Book also touched upon the potential impact of the upcoming World Cup on Dortmund’s transfer plans, suggesting that strong performances from players during the tournament could lead to unexpected offers. He stressed the importance of managing resources effectively, while also being open to creative transfer solutions, but reiterated that Dortmund is not under pressure to sell a large number of players. Dortmund finished third in the Bundesliga last season, securing automatic qualification for the Champions League.
Guirassy’s continued presence would provide a significant boost to Dortmund’s attacking options as they prepare for another challenging season in both domestic and European competitions.
