Roma forward Artem Dovbyk has indicated he may be open to leaving the club this summer, reflecting on past transfer interest from other Serie A sides. Speaking on the Ukrainian podcast 'Rosso Dritto', Dovbyk discussed his relationship with the club, his career to date, and potential future moves.
Dovbyk arrived at Roma last summer, chosen by the Friedkin ownership as a goalscoring solution under then-manager Daniele De Rossi. He was brought in after a successful season in La Liga, where he finished as the league’s top scorer – the Pichici winner. Despite expressing his happiness with the Roma fanbase, Dovbyk suggested his future at the club is uncertain, stating he wants to understand if there is space for him within the team’s plans.
The Ukrainian international explained his decision to join Roma over other potential suitors, including Atlético Madrid, was heavily influenced by his connection with De Rossi. He described the former Roma captain as a “legend of the club, like Totti”, and emphasized the trust he placed in the manager. Dovbyk also acknowledged his time with previous Roma managers, noting a difficult period under Ivan Juric and a gradual improvement under Claudio Ranieri.
Dovbyk also revealed that he was close to a move to AC Milan last August, but the deal proved too difficult to finalize within the short timeframe. He expressed a desire to complete any future transfers properly, suggesting he wouldn’t want to leave a deal “unfinished”. He praised the Roma supporters, noting their consistent attendance at the Stadio Olimpico, contrasting it with the attendance figures at local rivals Lazio. Currently under manager Gian Piero Gasperini, Dovbyk described the high-intensity training regime, referencing comments from fellow player Ruslan Malinovskyi. His future remains unclear, but Dovbyk has clearly signaled a willingness to consider options if his role at Roma is not secure.
