Denzel Dumfries is regaining form after a four-month ankle injury, playing a key role in Inter Milan’s recent successes, including their Coppa Italia victory. The Dutch international provided an assist for Lautaro Martinez in the final, acknowledging previous playful complaints from his teammate about a lack of assists.
The injury, sustained against Lazio in November, kept Dumfries sidelined until February, but he has returned to prominence with crucial performances. He scored twice against Como in April, contributing significantly to Inter’s Serie A title win, and delivered the assist for Martinez in the Coppa Italia final against Fiorentina. Dumfries expressed his happiness at being back after a difficult period and gave a perfect score of ten to Inter assistant coach Cristian Chivu.
Looking ahead, Dumfries will be involved in the upcoming World Cup with the Netherlands, facing Japan, Sweden, and Tunisia in the group stage. He remains a key player for coach Ronald Koeman. Simultaneously, his club future is subject to speculation as the transfer window approaches.
Inter have a release clause of €25 million on Dumfries, valid for 31 days in July. Despite interest last year, no clubs made concrete offers for the player. Barcelona were among those linked, but did not pursue a deal. Dumfries, who turned 30 in April, is considered a vital part of Inter’s squad, with his contract running until 2028. The club is also considering potential reinforcements, with Atalanta’s Marco Palestra, currently on loan at Cagliari, identified as a possible target for the right-back position. Luis Henrique is expected to depart, and veteran Darmian’s contract is set to expire in June, after winning nine trophies with the club. Inter’s management will evaluate options, with Dumfries’ World Cup performance potentially influencing his long-term future at the club.
