Paulo Dybala is expected to sign a contract renewal with Roma, with an announcement potentially coming as early as Monday following their match against Verona, according to reports in Italy. The agreement is believed to be for one year, with a base salary around €2.5 million.
The move comes after a period of speculation linking Dybala with potential transfers to Boca Juniors and Fenerbahce, but the Argentinian international has reportedly expressed a strong desire to remain in Rome. Manager Gian Piero Gasperini recently stated that when both parties are willing to continue a deal can be reached, suggesting a positive outlook for the renewal.
Negotiations have focused on restructuring Dybala’s financial package, moving away from his current €8 million net salary to a more sustainable figure in line with the club’s financial fair play obligations. Roma has proposed an annual extension with the option for a further renewal, featuring a base salary in the region of €2-2.5 million, supplemented by achievable performance-based bonuses tied to appearances, goals, and team success.
Dybala’s recent form has been a key factor in Roma’s push for Champions League qualification, despite a significant injury setback earlier this year. He underwent arthroscopic surgery in January for a meniscus injury, sidelining him for over three months and sparking debate about the timing of the procedure. His return to fitness in May revitalized the team, culminating in a standout performance and assist in the derby against Lazio, where he received a warm reception from the home crowd.
The forward has demonstrated a strong connection with teammate Donyell Malen, providing three assists and one goal in four matches played together. This partnership has contributed to three victories and a draw, with a combined goal difference of 8-3. Dybala will likely start in the upcoming match against Verona, aiming to end the season with a goal, having last scored against Torino in January. Roma and Dybala are now focused on securing Champions League football and continuing their partnership.
