Edin Džeko will not be joining Paris Saint-Germain, instead continuing his career with Schalke 04 after the club secured promotion to the Bundesliga. The Bosnian international was part of the Schalke squad who celebrated their championship win and Bundesliga return with a trip to Marbella, Spain, according to reports from Unser Fußball.
The team, having mathematically clinched promotion with two matchdays remaining, enjoyed a boat trip to mark the occasion. Džeko shared footage of the celebrations via an Instagram live stream, showing the team in high spirits. The celebrations included goalkeeper Loris Karius taking on DJ duties, a role some observers suggest he is more suited to than defending long-range shots.
Schalke officially secured their place in the Bundesliga last Saturday and face Nuremberg this weekend. The team’s current focus, however, appears to be on recovering from the Marbella festivities, with suggestions of a significant post-celebration recovery period needed. Džeko joined Schalke as a free agent last summer and has quickly become a key figure in the side, contributing significantly to their promotion campaign.
Karius, previously of Liverpool, has also found a new lease on life at Schalke, demonstrating his versatility beyond goalkeeping. The choice of “Freed From Desire” as the celebratory track did receive some minor criticism, being deemed somewhat overplayed for such an occasion. Džeko’s continued presence at Schalke provides a significant attacking threat as they prepare for the challenges of the Bundesliga next season. The club will hope the celebrations don’t impact their performance against Nuremberg.
