Bayern Munich director of sport Max Eberl has described his side's Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain as a "completely even match" ahead of the first leg in Paris on Tuesday. Speaking as the Bavarian club departed for France, Eberl emphasised that minor details could prove decisive in the encounter.
Eberl noted the widespread anticipation for the tie, stating that he believes all of Germany is supporting Bayern's quest for a place in the final at Wembley. "Many people you meet – whether in a restaurant or simply walking the dog – everyone is looking forward to this game," Eberl said. "Many of my colleagues in the Bundesliga wished us all the best."
The Bayern chief went on to analyse the strengths of both sides, highlighting their attacking quality and defensive organisation. "Both teams are top-class offensively. Both play a super-intense pressing game. Both defend very, very well," Eberl added. He concluded that the outcome would hinge on "small details," including decisions by officials and players on the pitch.
This semi-final represents a crucial juncture for Bayern Munich under manager Thomas Tuchel. Having already secured the Bundesliga title, the German giants are now focused on capturing a seventh European Cup. Their path to this stage included a commanding aggregate victory over Arsenal in the quarter-finals.
For Paris Saint-Germain, managed by Luis Enrique, the tie offers an opportunity to reach their second Champions League final, following their defeat in the 2020 final to Bayern. The French champions, who overturned a first-leg deficit to eliminate Barcelona in the previous round, will be relying heavily on the threat of Kylian Mbappe in attack.
The first leg at the Parc des Princes kicks off at 21:00 CET on Tuesday, with the return fixture scheduled for the Allianz Arena in Munich on May 7. The winner will face either Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund in the final at Wembley Stadium on June 1.
