Arsenal are in ongoing discussions with Hamburg regarding a permanent transfer for midfielder Fabio Vieira, though the German club’s valuation appears to be lower than the Gunners’ asking price. According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Arsenal are seeking a fee of around €18m (£15.4m) for the Portuguese player.
Vieira has spent the last two seasons on loan away from the Emirates Stadium, first returning to FC Porto for the 2024/25 campaign and then joining Hamburg last term. He enjoyed a productive spell with the Bundesliga side, registering seven goals and five assists in 29 league appearances. Hamburg are now keen to secure his services permanently.
Arsenal are reportedly open to selling Vieira, who is entering the final year of his contract with the club. Personal terms between Vieira and Hamburg have already been agreed, indicating the player is eager to complete the move. However, the sticking point remains the transfer fee, with Hamburg seemingly hesitant to meet Arsenal’s valuation.
The Gunners initially paid €40m (including add-ons) to sign Vieira in 2022, but his impending free agency reduces his market value. Despite this, Arsenal are holding firm on their asking price, believing it reflects Vieira’s potential and recent form. Plettenberg reported on X that discussions between the clubs are continuing ‘almost daily’ but progress has stalled recently.
Vieira’s departure would free up space in Arsenal’s squad and potentially contribute to their transfer budget as they continue to pursue other targets this summer, including reported interest in Bruno Guimaraes, Julian Alvarez, and Vinicius Jr. A compromise between Arsenal and Hamburg will be necessary for the transfer to materialize, allowing Vieira to continue his career in Germany.
