Atlético Madrid have firmly rejected any potential offers from Barcelona for forward Julián Álvarez, according to a video statement released by the club’s CEO, Miguel Ángel Gil. The declaration comes in response to continued public pressure from Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who recently suggested Atlético’s offer for Álvarez was not indefinite.
Gil addressed supporters directly in the video, stating, “The club’s will is clear, only, we want to give an answer to the people and the president of Barça. I have no doubt that Atlético is the best place in the world for Julián and that he is the perfect centre-forward for Atlético de Madrid.” He further asserted that the club would refuse bids from Barcelona “whether it’s for 100, 150 or 200 million euros.”
Álvarez, who recently featured for Argentina at the World Cup, reportedly expressed a desire to continue his career away from Atlético Madrid during the tournament. This prompted Barcelona to explore a potential transfer, but their advances have now been publicly rebuffed. The 23-year-old joined Atlético in 2019 and has become a key component of Diego Simeone’s attack, contributing consistently with goals and assists.
Gil’s strong statement appears to close the door on a move to the Camp Nou, at least for the time being. Atlético clearly value Álvarez highly and are unwilling to part with their star forward, despite significant financial offers. This firm stance underscores the club’s commitment to retaining key players and maintaining a competitive squad in La Liga. The situation could evolve, but as of Friday, Atlético Madrid are resolute in their decision to keep Álvarez.
