Bayern Munich are preparing to initiate formal contract negotiations with Harry Kane in early August, once the forward returns from his summer break, according to a report in Sport Bild.
The discussions will centre around extending the stay of the England captain, who has become a pivotal figure for the Bavarian club since joining from Tottenham Hotspur last year. Kane quickly established himself as Bayern’s leading goalscorer, finishing the previous Bundesliga season with 36 goals in 32 appearances and playing a key role in securing the league title.
Currently, Kane is Bayern’s highest earner, sharing that distinction with Jamal Musiala on a gross annual salary of approximately €25 million. Despite a club policy of typically reducing wages for players over 30, Sport Bild reports that Bayern are not planning to request a pay cut from Kane as part of these negotiations.
While other clubs have reportedly expressed interest in Kane in recent months, the report suggests the striker remains committed to Bayern, viewing the club as the ideal environment to achieve his career goals and has not seriously contemplated a transfer elsewhere. The primary point of contention in negotiations is expected to be the length of the new contract.
Bayern are prepared to offer Kane a deal extending his stay until at least 2029. However, Kane, aged 30, is aiming to remain competitive at the highest level through the 2030 FIFA World Cup and is considering his options accordingly. This has led to two potential scenarios: a longer contract until 2030 with a slightly reduced annual salary, or a shorter extension to 2029 that would allow him to maintain his current wage.
The outcome of these discussions will shape the latter stages of Kane’s career at Bayern, with both parties expressing a strong desire to continue their successful partnership. Furthermore, extending Kane’s contract would not preclude Bayern from pursuing another high-profile striker in the summer of 2027, with Vincent Kompany reportedly keen on a flexible attacking system that could accommodate two forwards. The club had previously shown interest in Benjamin Šeško before his move to Manchester United.
