Bayern Munich have confirmed that Nicolas Jackson will return to Chelsea following the end of his loan spell, the club announced Friday afternoon. The Bavarian side expressed their gratitude for Jackson’s contributions in a social media post, stating a season that will forever be remembered, thanking him for his commitment.
Jackson, a 24-year-old Senegal international, joined Bayern on loan from Chelsea with an obligation to buy for €60 million if he played 40 matches, each lasting at least 45 minutes. He made 34 appearances for the Bundesliga champions, scoring 11 goals and providing 4 assists. As he did not reach the required match threshold, he will return to Stamford Bridge after the 2026 World Cup (June 11-July 19).
Chelsea initially signed Jackson from Villarreal in August 2023 for a reported fee of £30 million. He struggled to consistently find the back of the net in his first season with the Blues, scoring 14 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions. The loan move to Bayern was intended to provide Jackson with consistent playing time and a chance to develop under a new environment.
Bayern’s decision not to exercise the purchase option represents a cost saving of €60 million for the club. The German giants are likely to explore other attacking options in the upcoming transfer window, particularly with the focus on supporting Harry Kane, who has been a key figure in their attack. Jackson’s return to Chelsea presents a potential boost for the Blues’ forward line, offering manager Enzo Maresca another option in attack. It remains to be seen whether Jackson will feature prominently in Chelsea’s plans for the 2026/27 season.
