Arsenal and Chelsea have received a setback in their pursuit of Eli Junior Kroupi, with Bayern Munich now reportedly interested in the Bournemouth forward, according to German publication Absolut Bayern via Merkur. The 19-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season with Bournemouth, scoring 13 Premier League goals and helping the club qualify for the Europa League.
Kroupi’s impressive form culminated in him breaking the Premier League record for most goals scored by a teenager in a debut season after netting against Manchester City earlier this month. His performances have attracted attention from several top clubs, with The Guardian reporting that Arsenal are monitoring the France Under-21 international. Manchester City, currently without a manager, have also been linked with a move, as have Chelsea.
Bayern Munich are seeking attacking reinforcement following a busy season for their forward line, which saw Michael Olise, Harry Kane and Luis Diaz score over 100 goals between them. The German giants recently missed out on Anthony Gordon, who joined Barcelona, and have turned their attention to Kroupi as potential cover.
Despite the growing interest, Bournemouth’s President of Football Operations, Tiago Pinto, has been firm in his stance that Kroupi will not be sold. In an interview with 365scores, Pinto stated that Kroupi’s contract, which has over four years remaining, does not include a release clause and that the club would not entertain offers, even reaching €100 million (£85m). Kroupi himself expressed his desire to continue performing for Bournemouth and compete in Europe, speaking to Stadium Astro earlier this month.
This news comes after Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta urged the club’s board to invest heavily following their defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. Arteta emphasized the need for ambition and swift, intelligent decision-making to elevate the team to the next level. The pursuit of Kroupi could be a key part of those plans, though Bournemouth’s resolute stance presents a significant obstacle.
