Borussia Dortmund are considering a bid for KRC Genk midfielder Konstantinos Karetsas, with the 18-year-old identified as their primary target to fill the void left by Julian Brandt’s departure, according to Sky Germany. Brandt left Dortmund at the conclusion of his contract, creating a need for reinforcement in the attacking midfield position.
Genk are reportedly holding out for a fee of €35 million for Karetsas, which currently presents a significant hurdle in negotiations. Dortmund’s financial flexibility may soon increase, however, with Karim Adeyemi’s anticipated transfer to Barcelona. That deal could generate up to €29 million for BVB, including performance-based bonuses, potentially providing the necessary funds to pursue Karetsas.
Karetsas enjoyed a breakout season with Genk, registering three goals and an impressive 18 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions. His creative output and ability to contribute both goals and assists have drawn the attention of several European clubs, but Dortmund appear to be leading the chase. The Greek international has also begun to establish himself on the international stage, earning 10 caps for Greece and contributing four goal involvements – three goals and one assist – for his national team.
The player himself is reportedly receptive to a move to the Bundesliga and the opportunity to play for a club with Dortmund’s stature. Should Dortmund successfully secure his signature, Karetsas would likely compete for a starting role alongside players like Marco Reus and Julian Bynoe-Gittens, adding youthful energy and attacking flair to the squad. The potential arrival of Karetsas signals Dortmund’s intent to continue investing in young talent and maintaining a competitive edge in both domestic and European competitions.
