Strasbourg have officially announced the signing of Polish goalkeeper Milosz Piekutowski from Jagiellonia Bialystok on a permanent deal. The 20-year-old has signed a contract with the French club that runs until 2029, with an additional optional year, according to L’Équipe. While Piekutowski joins on a free transfer, Jagiellonia Bialystok will receive €400,000 in training compensation.
Piekutowski recently impressed observers during Jagiellonia Bialystok’s Europa Conference League match against Strasbourg at the Meinau stadium on October 23rd, which ended in a 1-1 draw. He is expected to serve as the backup goalkeeper for Strasbourg, following a significant overhaul of the goalkeeping department. Mike Penders has completed his loan spell, while Karl-Johan Johnsson and Stefan Bajic have both departed at the end of their contracts, with Bajic joining Alemannia Aachen.
Piekutowski has risen through the ranks at Jagiellonia Bialystok, and his move to Strasbourg represents a significant step up in his career. Jagiellonia Bialystok currently sit third in the Polish Ekstraklasa, benefiting from the development of players like Piekutowski. The Polish youth international has shown promising potential, and Strasbourg are seemingly investing in a future first-choice goalkeeper.
Diogo Sousa, from Vitoria Guimaraes, and Benjamin Brantlind, from Göteborg, are the other two players Strasbourg have brought in during the summer transfer window. Piekutowski’s arrival provides much-needed depth and competition in the goalkeeping position, addressing a clear need within the squad as Strasbourg prepare for the upcoming Ligue 1 season. The club will be hoping Piekutowski can develop into a reliable option between the posts.
