Strasbourg are set to sign 17-year-old Swedish winger Benjamin Brantlind from Göteborg for a reported fee of €1 million, according to L’Équipe. The club anticipates a five-year contract for the promising young talent, who recently bid farewell to Göteborg supporters following their 5-4 victory over Vasteras on May 31st. Brantlind, who will turn 18 on August 15th, has been part of Göteborg’s rotation since mid-September.
Brantlind is currently under contract with Göteborg until December 31st, 2026, indicating Strasbourg moved quickly to secure his signature. Aftonbladet reported on Brantlind’s goodbye to the Göteborg faithful, suggesting the transfer was already well underway. While primarily deployed as a left winger for his club, he is also capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, a role he has fulfilled with Swedish youth national teams.
Strasbourg have been actively focusing on youth recruitment this transfer window, having already secured the services of 20-year-old Polish goalkeeper Milosz Piekutowski. They are also reportedly close to signing 20-year-old Portuguese midfielder Diogo Sousa. This strategy suggests a long-term rebuilding project is underway at the Ligue 1 club.
This move represents an opportunity for Brantlind to gain regular first-team experience in a competitive European league. Strasbourg, meanwhile, add a versatile and highly-rated young player to their squad, potentially bolstering their attacking options for the upcoming season. The acquisition further signals Strasbourg’s commitment to developing young talent and building a sustainable future for the club.
