Everton have expressed interest in signing Kieran Trippier on a free transfer this summer, with initial discussions already underway with the player’s representatives according to TEAMtalk. The 35-year-old England international is set to become a free agent when his contract at Newcastle United expires at the end of the current season and is currently evaluating his options.
David Moyes is reportedly keen to bolster his full-back options ahead of the new campaign, making Trippier a potentially attractive target. This need is further amplified by the confirmed departure of Seamus Coleman, who will leave Everton at the end of the season after a long and distinguished career with the club. While Everton are expected to trigger a one-year contract extension for Vitaliy Mykolenko, uncertainty remains regarding his long-term future at Goodison Park.
Trippier has established himself as a fan favourite during his time at St James’ Park, consistently demonstrating his ability to perform at a high level. His experience, leadership qualities, and excellent delivery from wide areas are seen as valuable assets. For Everton, acquiring a proven Premier League performer without a transfer fee represents a low-risk opportunity to strengthen a key position.
However, Everton are not alone in their pursuit of the experienced full-back. Wolves, recently relegated to the Championship, are also reportedly interested, with manager Rob Edwards viewing Trippier as a player who could add experience and tactical flexibility to his squad. A return to overseas football is also a possibility for Trippier, who previously played for Atletico Madrid and remains open to opportunities abroad. While a decision has not yet been made, Everton’s interest is genuine as Moyes aims to reshape the squad during the summer transfer window.
Everton are also considering other defensive options, retaining interest in Celta Vigo’s Oscar Mingueza, who is also available on a free transfer. The 27-year-old’s versatility, being able to play at both full-back positions and centre-back, is particularly appealing. Furthermore, the potential departures of both Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson could necessitate the addition of two new right-backs this summer, with Trippier and Mingueza both on Everton’s radar.
