Everton have registered their interest in signing Nottingham Forest left-back Neco Williams, according to reports from BBC Sport journalist Sami Mokbel. The Toffees are one of several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Newcastle and Aston Villa, to have made ‘discreet enquiries’ regarding the 25-year-old Welsh international.
Everton manager David Moyes is aiming to strengthen multiple positions during the upcoming summer transfer window, with full-back identified as a key area for improvement. The Friedkin Group, Everton’s owners, are expected to provide financial backing for Moyes’ plans, even if the club does not secure European qualification.
Williams has been a consistent performer for Nottingham Forest this season, contributing two goals and four assists in 51 appearances across all competitions. Originally a product of Liverpool’s academy, he offers versatility by being capable of playing at both left-back and right-back, a quality that would appeal to Moyes. However, Forest are keen to retain Williams and have initiated contract extension talks, with his current deal set to expire in 2029.
The potential arrival of Williams could impact the future of current Everton left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko. The Ukrainian’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season, but the club are poised to trigger a one-year extension clause to prevent him from leaving on a free transfer. However, Everton will still assess their options with Mykolenko in the summer, and a sale has not been ruled out. Williams’ attacking capabilities could see him slot directly into Moyes’ starting lineup.
Everton are also considering alternative options at left-back, with Wolves’ Hugo Bueno identified as another potential target. The 23-year-old Spaniard is expected to depart Wolves following their relegation and is open to remaining in the Premier League.
