Fenerbahçe are currently leading the race to sign Mason Greenwood from Olympique de Marseille, according to L’Équipe. The Turkish club have reportedly submitted a bid of €40 million, with potential bonuses, for the 24-year-old winger, but without including agent fees.
Olympique de Marseille are reportedly seeking €10 million more for Greenwood. However, the financial package offered by Fenerbahçe has apparently convinced the player’s representatives to consider a move to Turkey. While a lucrative contract is appealing, reports suggest Greenwood would prefer a move to Atlético Madrid.
Atlético Madrid have made an offer of €45 million with a further €5 million in potential bonuses, but this offer includes agent commissions and a sell-on percentage for Marseille, who structured Greenwood’s initial arrival to avoid inflating their wage bill. Marseille will also be obligated to pay 40% of any transfer fee to Manchester United, who retain a stake in the player.
Greenwood joined Marseille last summer after his loan spell with Getafe. He quickly became a key player for the Ligue 1 side, scoring eight goals and providing five assists in 36 appearances across all competitions. His performances helped Marseille secure a seventh-place finish in Ligue 1 and qualification for the UEFA Europa League. However, the club’s financial situation and the need to generate transfer funds have led to them considering offers for the England international.
Should Greenwood move to Fenerbahçe, it would represent a significant coup for the Turkish Super Lig side, who are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. A move to Atlético Madrid would see Greenwood join a club renowned for its tactical prowess and competing at the highest level of European football. The outcome of this transfer saga will likely hinge on whether Marseille prioritize financial gain or the player’s preference.
