Fulham have finalised the appointment of Alvaro Arbeloa as their new manager, and the club are now exploring the possibility of signing five players from Real Madrid this summer. The former Real Madrid defender has agreed a three-year contract at Craven Cottage, succeeding Marco Silva after convincing the Fulham hierarchy of his suitability for the role.
Arbeloa’s appointment was reportedly strongly backed by both Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and new Real boss Jose Mourinho, who personally spoke with Fulham’s hierarchy to endorse him. This support has seemingly opened a pathway for Fulham to pursue several young talents currently within Real Madrid’s system.
Arbeloa arrives at Fulham following an impressive spell with Real Madrid Castilla, where he served as interim manager of the senior side earlier this year. Despite Mourinho’s appointment as permanent head coach at the Bernabeu, Real Madrid’s hierarchy are said to retain a high opinion of Arbeloa’s managerial potential, viewing his move to Fulham as a valuable developmental step.
Fulham are now prepared to invest heavily in the transfer market and leverage their strengthened relationship with Real Madrid. Highly-rated 21-year-old midfielder Cesar Palacios is at the top of Arbeloa’s wishlist, a player he knows well from his time within Real Madrid’s academy. Other players under consideration include Manuel Angel, Jorge Cestero, and Thiago Pitarch, with Arbeloa well-positioned to assess which emerging talents are ready for senior football.
Eighteen-year-old sensation Franco Mastantuono is also a target, although any move is contingent on Mourinho’s plans for the young player. Similarly, Fulham are interested in 22-year-old striker Gonzalo Garcia, but his future remains uncertain pending Mourinho’s assessment of his squad. The club had already been tracking Garcia prior to Arbeloa’s arrival, and the new manager is understood to be a keen admirer of the forward.
With backing from Perez and Mourinho, and investment promised by the club, there is growing optimism that Fulham’s new era under Arbeloa could be an ambitious one, potentially providing a steady stream of young talent from one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
