Cody Gakpo’s future at Liverpool is under scrutiny this summer as the Dutch international reportedly has concerns about his role under new manager Andoni Iraola. According to TEAMtalk, Gakpo is worried about potentially falling behind teenage winger Rio Ngumoha in the pecking order for the upcoming season.
Gakpo has reportedly communicated these concerns to those close to him, and his representatives are now exploring potential opportunities should Liverpool be open to a sale. While Liverpool are not actively seeking to sell the 27-year-old, the club would consider a significant offer, sources indicate.
The situation has arisen following a disappointing campaign for Gakpo at Anfield, coinciding with the emergence of Ngumoha as a promising talent. The teenager is viewed internally as a key player for Iraola’s future plans, creating uncertainty for Gakpo, who is ambitious and unwilling to accept a reduced role.
Several clubs have been alerted to Gakpo’s potential availability. Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are among the Premier League sides interested, while AC Milan and Atletico Madrid have also been contacted by intermediaries. Interest extends beyond these leagues, with Turkish clubs Besiktas and Fenerbahce, as well as RB Leipzig, also monitoring the situation.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Yan Diomande may also be linked to Gakpo’s situation, with the club potentially using the winger as leverage in negotiations with the Red Bull group. The Reds remain determined to sign Diomande, despite RB Leipzig’s desire to retain him. For now, Gakpo remains a Liverpool player, but with Ngumoha’s rising prominence, Iraola’s arrival, and interest from across Europe, his long-term future at Anfield is increasingly uncertain.
