Galatasaray have submitted an initial offer for FC Augsburg attacker Mert Kömür, according to reports from Turkish outlet Sporx. The 20-year-old Germany U21 international has also been linked with several other European clubs, including FC Porto, Eintracht Frankfurt, RB Leipzig and Club Brugge.
Kömür is currently under contract with Augsburg until 2029, but the Bundesliga club may be open to a sale. Augsburg sporting director Benjamin Weber recently acknowledged the interest in both Kömür and teammate Alexis Claude-Maurice, stating that the club is pleased other teams are recognizing the development of their players. Weber indicated that Augsburg aims to provide a platform for players to grow and potentially secure moves to larger leagues.
Weber told Bulinews.com that the club understands players may aspire to bigger contracts and leagues, and that Augsburg’s role is to facilitate that potential growth. He also noted that the current speculation may be linked to the upcoming World Cup, suggesting clubs are assessing options ahead of the tournament. While Weber acknowledged the rumours, he stated there was “no news yet” at the time of the interview.
Reports suggest Augsburg are seeking a fee of around €20 million for Kömür. The young forward has become an increasingly important player for Augsburg since breaking into the first team, demonstrating his potential with consistent performances in the Bundesliga. A move to Galatasaray would offer Kömür the opportunity to play regular football and potentially compete in European competitions.
Should Kömür complete a move to Galatasaray, it would represent a significant step in his career and provide Augsburg with a substantial transfer fee. The transfer could also signal Augsburg’s willingness to sell key players to fund further investment in the squad.
