Ruslan Malinovskyi will leave Genoa when his contract expires at the end of the current season. The club confirmed the departure with a message of thanks, and have promised a standing ovation for his final appearance at the Stadio Ferraris.
The Ukrainian midfielder’s three-year spell with Genoa is coming to an end, with the club opting not to renew his contract. Malinovskyi’s last home game will be against Milan, providing an opportunity for the Genoa faithful to show their appreciation.
Genoa publicly acknowledged Malinovskyi’s contribution, praising his commitment and passion for the club. A statement released by the club read, “Thank you Ruslan for this wonderful adventure experienced with the red and blue stitched on your skin. In good times and bad, your grit and love for the shirt will remain indelible. All of Genoa sends you a warm greeting, ready to give you a standing ovation in what has been, and will remain for years to come, your home. From the beginning, forever.”
Malinovskyi arrived at Genoa in 2023 and quickly became a key figure in midfield, contributing goals and assists during his time at the club. His departure leaves a void in the squad, but also frees up space for potential new signings as Genoa look to build for the future. The decision to allow him to leave on a free transfer reflects the club’s strategy of managing its wage bill and investing in younger players.
The news comes as Genoa continue to plan for next season under coach Alberto Gilardino. The club recently accelerated their pursuit of Marcelo Vaz, reportedly beating Inter to the signature of the promising talent from Varesina, according to reports. Malinovskyi’s exit will allow the club to focus on strengthening other areas of the pitch and continuing their positive trajectory in Serie A.
