TSG Hoffenheim have completed the permanent signing of 17-year-old midfielder Nathan De Cat from RSC Anderlecht, the Bundesliga club confirmed on Friday.
The Belgian youth international joins Hoffenheim on a long-term contract, with the club stating that De Cat opted for their project despite attracting interest from numerous other top European sides.
Andreas Schicker, Hoffenheim’s managing director for sport, expressed the club’s delight at securing the signature of the promising youngster. “It gives us tremendous pleasure that an internationally sought-after player like Nathan De Cat has made a conscious decision to join TSG,” Schicker said. “This is outstanding confirmation of the path we have chosen.”
Schicker further lauded De Cat’s potential, stating, “Nathan is one of the biggest talents in European football in his position. We firmly believe in his potential and want to give him the trust and the necessary time to showcase his strengths at Bundesliga level and continue developing step by step.”
De Cat himself explained his reasoning for choosing Hoffenheim, highlighting the club’s persistent interest and the positive conversations he had with key figures. “TSG showed a strong and lasting interest in me from a very early stage,” De Cat stated. “The conversations with the people in charge, including Andreas Schicker, Paul Pajduch and coach Chris Ilzer, completely convinced me.”
He also pointed to the opportunity to play in a top-five league and the prospect of European football as key factors in his decision. “TSG Hoffenheim offers me the ideal opportunity to prove myself in one of Europe’s top five leagues and contribute to the club’s sporting success,” he added. “Furthermore, playing in the Europa League gives me the chance to gain valuable experience on the international stage.”
Despite his young age, De Cat has already established himself as a regular in Anderlecht’s first team, making 53 appearances for the Belgian side. His arrival at Hoffenheim provides coach Chris Ilzer with another talented option in midfield, and the club will hope he can continue his development in the Bundesliga. The transfer signifies Hoffenheim’s continued commitment to developing young talent and building a competitive squad for the future.
This move allows De Cat to test himself in a highly regarded league and potentially gain valuable experience in the Europa League, which could accelerate his development as a professional footballer.
