Inter Milan have verbally secured agreements with Sassuolo’s Tarik Muharemovic and Udinese’s Oumar Solet to bolster their defensive options, according to reports in Italy. The Nerazzurri have been actively seeking central defenders due to uncertainty surrounding existing players and potential departures.
The interest in both players stems from the possible exit of Alessandro Bastoni, who was linked with a move to Barcelona earlier this year. While Bastoni’s situation appears to have stabilized, with Barcelona reportedly shifting their focus to other targets, Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio and CEO Beppe Marotta have been preparing for contingencies. The contracts of Francesco Acerbi, Stefan de Vrij, and Davide Darmian are also expiring, further emphasizing the need for defensive reinforcements.
Muharemovic has emerged as a key target, though his acquisition could be complicated by Sassuolo’s valuation of €25 million, half of which would go to Juventus as part of a previous agreement. Inter are reportedly exploring a loan with an obligation to buy, potentially including young midfielder Giovanni Mosconi in the deal, but negotiations have reportedly slowed down due to interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Solet is viewed as a more versatile option and was previously considered during the summer transfer window. However, his situation is currently complicated by a legal investigation into allegations of sexual assault. A decision regarding the case is expected on June 10th, and a positive outcome could pave the way for Inter to make a strong push for the French defender, who is represented by the same agent as Hakan Calhanoglu. Udinese are expected to demand between €25-30 million for Solet. Inter coach Cristian Chivu is believed to need at least two new defenders, regardless of Bastoni’s future, to ensure adequate depth in the squad. Should Bastoni remain at the club, Inter may pursue only one of Muharemovic or Solet, but a departure for the Italian international could see both players arrive at the San Siro.
