Inter are preparing a contract extension for forward Pio Esposito, with negotiations underway to tie the 21-year-old to the club until 2031, according to reports in Italy. The proposed new deal would more than double Esposito’s current salary, increasing it from €1.2 million to €2.5 million per season, plus bonuses.
Esposito has quickly become a key player for Inter since breaking into the first team, scoring 11 goals in all competitions last season. He made a significant impact in Serie A, notably scoring against Lecce, Juventus, Atalanta, and Fiorentina, and also contributed in European competitions with goals against Union SG and Bodo/Glimt. His assist for Valentin Carboni in the Club World Cup final against Urawa Reds also highlighted his growing influence.
Inter CEO Beppe Marotta is reportedly firm in his stance that Esposito is not for sale, even turning down potential offers of around €70 million. Several Premier League clubs have expressed interest in the young Italian, but Inter are determined to retain their rising star. The club’s commitment to Esposito is reflected in the ambitious terms of the proposed contract extension.
Esposito’s achievements extend beyond club football; he has also impressed for the Italian national team, scoring five goals before the age of 21, a record previously held by Gianni Rivera and surpassed only by Giuseppe Meazza. He has already secured an Italian league title, a Coppa Italia, and a European Under-19 Championship. He was also awarded the Golden Boy award by Tuttosport and named the best young player in Serie B for 2024. Inter are hoping to finalize the contract extension before the start of the new season, with further meetings scheduled to discuss the details.
