Inter are considering a move for Juventus wing-back Andrea Cambiaso, with a potential swap deal involving Nerazzurri midfielder Davide Frattesi being discussed, according to reports in Italy. The situation has become more complex following Chelsea’s decision to pursue Marco Palestra, initially a key Inter target.
Chelsea had been actively seeking information on Cambiaso, with manager Xabi Alonso reportedly a long-time admirer of the player. However, Alonso ultimately favored Palestra, leading to a deal with Atalanta worth €6 million net per year for the player. This left Inter without a clear replacement for Denzel Dumfries, who recently transferred to Real Madrid.
Juventus value Cambiaso at a minimum of €40 million, a figure Inter initially deemed too high. The Nerazzurri are also evaluating whether Cambiaso’s profile would adequately replace Dumfries, considering their similar characteristics. The urgency of the transfer window is now forcing Inter to consider options that were previously lower priorities.
Inter coach Luciano Spalletti is known to highly rate Davide Frattesi, having previously utilized him effectively during his time as national team manager. Frattesi was a key figure in Spalletti’s Italy squad, becoming the team’s top scorer with seven goals. Spalletti sees Frattesi’s ability to make late runs into the box as a valuable asset, and previously attempted to bring him to Juventus in January. Juventus have reportedly offered defender Federico Gatti as part of a potential deal to lower Frattesi’s price, but Inter are also hoping to secure a straight cash offer from Nottingham Forest, who are willing to meet Frattesi’s €30 million valuation.
A swap deal involving Cambiaso would require Inter to pay a fee to Juventus, though it would likely be less than the €50 million plus bonuses previously quoted for Palestra. The situation remains fluid, but the potential for a Frattesi-Cambiaso exchange is gaining traction. Juventus are also reportedly monitoring Liverpool’s Curtis Jones as a potential midfield reinforcement.
