Liverpool have reached a full agreement to sign Atletico Nacional attacking midfielder Samuel Martinez for a fee of just under €900,000. The 17-year-old is currently travelling to Merseyside to undergo a medical with the club, though his official registration will not occur until after his 18th birthday in April 2027.
According to Sky Germany, Martinez is expected to sign a five-year contract at Anfield upon finalisation of the transfer. The Athletic have also reported that Liverpool will maintain a direct role in Martinez’s development at Atletico Nacional for the next year, prior to his formal arrival.
Martinez initially attracted attention from Liverpool scouts during the South American Under-17 Championship earlier in the year, where he played a key role in Colombia’s victory over Argentina in the final. The Reds successfully competed with interest from several other European clubs to secure his signature. He is yet to make a senior appearance for Atletico Nacional, but Liverpool are optimistic he will feature for the first team next season before completing his move.
Once the transfer is officially announced, Martinez will become the second signing under new manager Andoni Iraola, following the arrival of Spain winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna for a fee of €40 million. Jeremy Jacquet also joined the club earlier in the summer, with an agreement reached with Stade Rennais in February, before Iraola’s appointment.
Liverpool are also actively pursuing further additions to both their youth and senior squads. Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola is considered a primary target, though a deal for RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande is now considered unlikely. The club has also been linked with a move for Bournemouth attacker Rayan. Further defensive reinforcements may also be sought, with Giovanni Leoni currently recovering from an ACL injury and potential interest in selling Curtis Jones.
