Liverpool are considering a move for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh as an alternative to Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola, according to reports. The Reds’ pursuit of Barcola is proving difficult, with PSG seeking a British transfer record fee and Arsenal emerging as strong competition for the France international.
Barcola has impressed with the French national team at the ongoing World Cup, contributing to their impressive goal tally of 16 in six matches. However, his future at PSG is uncertain due to concerns over playing time under Luis Enrique and the potential arrival of Yan Diomande and Maghnes Akliouche. The 23-year-old has reportedly paused renewal talks on his current contract, which expires in two years.
Despite Liverpool’s interest, securing Barcola will be a significant challenge, potentially prompting a shift in focus towards Minteh. The 21-year-old Gambian forward has been on Liverpool’s radar since June 2024, and the club are now giving serious consideration to a firm approach. While Minteh’s goal contributions last season – three goals and four assists in 34 appearances – were modest, analysts believe his output could increase under manager Andoni Iraola.
David Lynch, a journalist covering Liverpool, believes Minteh’s profile fits the Reds’ system better than other alternatives, highlighting his work rate and defensive contributions. He suggests that Iraola’s tactical approach could unlock Minteh’s potential, allowing him to get into more goal-scoring positions. While Lynch still advocates for pursuing Barcola, he views Minteh as a viable and potentially high-value option. Persuading Brighton to sell will be a challenge, as they are known to be tough negotiators.
Meanwhile, there is speculation surrounding the future of Mohamed Salah, with a move to Saudi Arabia or Major League Soccer considered the most likely outcome. Liverpool are also reportedly in contact with a Mexico sensation, though that deal faces complications.
