Liverpool have expressed interest in signing Barcelona forward Ferran Torres, potentially disrupting Paris Saint-Germain’s pursuit of the Spain international, according to reports in France. Torres recently scored the winning goal in the World Cup final for Spain against Argentina, increasing his profile and attracting attention from several top clubs.
Torres currently has two years remaining on his contract with Barcelona, but the club are reportedly open to selling the 26-year-old following the departure of Robert Lewandowski on a free transfer. Barcelona have identified Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez as a priority target and would likely use funds from a Torres sale to finance a move for the Argentinian forward.
Previously with Manchester City, where he joined in 2020 before moving to Barcelona in January 2022 for a fee of €55 million, Torres has become a consistent performer for the Catalan side. Last season, he scored 21 goals in 49 appearances for Barcelona, often featuring as a rotational option. His versatility across the forward line is considered a key asset.
PSG had emerged as frontrunners for Torres’s signature, with manager Luis Enrique reportedly keen to reunite with his compatriot after Goncalo Ramos moved to AC Milan. The French champions are also pursuing deals for Maghnes Akliouche and Yan Diomande, but view Torres as a significant addition to their attacking options. However, L’Equipe reports, via GFFN, that Liverpool are now prepared to compete with PSG for the player’s signature. Torres is currently valued at around €42.2 million, according to Estimated Transfer Value data. A deal at that price point could represent good value for Liverpool, given his contract situation and proven goalscoring record. The potential arrival of Torres could provide Andoni Iraola with valuable attacking options during his first season as Liverpool manager.
