Olympique Lyonnais have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the permanent transfer of Julien Duranville, according to L'Équipe. The 20-year-old winger will cost Lyon €5.5 million, excluding any potential bonuses, despite having two years remaining on his contract with Dortmund. The deal is currently contingent on Lyon successfully navigating a financial review by the DNCG next week.
Duranville struggled for consistent playing time at Dortmund, leading to a loan spell with FC Basel during the second half of last season. He made 16 appearances for Basel, scoring two goals and providing one assist. The move to Lyon offers Duranville the opportunity to establish himself as a key player in a rebuilding side.
Lyon are seeking a replacement for Afonso Moreira, who is reportedly close to joining Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of €32 million plus bonuses. Duranville’s arrival addresses that need, providing a dynamic attacking option for coach Pierre Sage. He is described as an explosive dribbler, capable of playing on either flank.
Lyon are also finalizing a five-year contract with Mads Bidstrup, further strengthening their midfield options, but this deal is also subject to DNCG approval. The DNCG review is a crucial step for Lyon, who are working to stabilize their finances after a period of significant investment. Successfully passing the review will allow both transfers to be completed, bolstering Lyon’s squad ahead of the new season. Duranville’s signing represents a significant step in Lyon’s efforts to return to the upper echelons of Ligue 1.
