Manchester United are prepared to sell midfielder Manuel Ugarte this summer as part of a significant squad overhaul under new manager Michael Carrick, according to Fabrizio Romano. The club intends to make space in midfield for potential new signings, with Casemiro also among those potentially departing.
Romano reported that United have communicated their desire for Ugarte to leave “very clearly” to his representatives. The move is intended to facilitate the arrival of at least two, and potentially three, new midfielders ahead of next season, as the team prepares for the added demands of Champions League football. Italian and Turkish clubs have previously expressed interest in Ugarte, and United are hoping opportunities will re-emerge.
Ugarte joined Manchester United last summer, but has not consistently featured in the starting eleven. He has made 25 appearances across all competitions for the club, but has struggled to cement a regular place in the team. The player’s departure would free up funds and a squad space for Carrick to reshape the midfield to his liking.
Rasmus Højlund’s permanent transfer to Napoli for €44 million has already provided a financial boost for United, and the club is also assessing the future of Marcus Rashford. The potential exits of Ugarte and Casemiro, combined with Højlund’s departure, signal a clear intention to rebuild the squad and bring in players who better fit Carrick’s tactical vision. This midfield refresh is considered critical as United aim to compete on multiple fronts next season.
