Manchester United are poised to receive a £38 million fee from Napoli for Rasmus Hojlund, with the transfer becoming permanent should Napoli qualify for the Champions League, according to Fabrizio Romano. The obligation to buy will be activated following Napoli’s potential Champions League qualification on Monday, adding to the £6 million already received by United for the initial loan deal last August. The total package for Hojlund is set to reach €50 million, and the striker will have an €85 million release clause in his contract from June 2027.
This financial boost comes as United consider midfield reinforcements this summer, with Atalanta’s Ederson Silva among those under consideration. However, Romano has cautioned against reports of a completed deal, stating that while discussions with Ederson’s agents are active, no agreement is in place. He revealed that United have been tracking the Brazilian midfielder since 2025, when Atalanta were unwilling to sell, and are now aware of his €45 million price tag. Ederson’s availability has increased as he is out of contract in 2027 and is not expected to sign an extension.
Despite initial reports of personal terms being agreed, Romano insists the deal is not finalised, and Ederson is one of several midfield options being evaluated by the club. Atletico Madrid were previously linked with a move for the player, but a deal now appears to be close with Wolves’ Joao Gomes. The potential arrival of a new midfielder would address a key area for improvement in Erik ten Hag’s squad.
The sale of Hojlund provides United with greater financial flexibility as they aim to strengthen their squad ahead of next season. The funds generated will be crucial in pursuing other targets, with the club reportedly prioritising four signings this summer. Securing Champions League qualification will further enhance their transfer budget, allowing them to compete for top talent. The Hojlund deal represents a positive outcome for both clubs, providing Napoli with a talented striker and United with a significant financial return.
