Manchester City make Newcastle's Tino Livramento top right-back target
Manchester City have identified Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento as their primary target to solve their long-standing issues at right-back, according to a report from FootballTransfers. The Premier League champions are expected to address the position this summer, with manager Pep Guardiola having frequently used midfielders and academy players in the role over recent seasons.
Livramento, 23, is understood to be the club's preferred option despite a history of injury problems. The former Chelsea and Southampton full-back has impressed at St James' Park since his move in 2023, showcasing the attacking dynamism and defensive solidity that has attracted City's interest. The England international's potential availability comes as City plan for a significant window, which could coincide with managerial uncertainty should Guardiola depart upon the expiry of his contract in 2027.
The report notes that City have several alternatives on their shortlist should a move for Livramento prove too complex. Tottenham's Pedro Porro is also admired, with sources suggesting his profile is seen as an ideal fit for City's system, though any deal would require negotiating with a direct top-four rival. Barcelona's Jules Kounde and Juventus's versatile Andrea Cambiaso, a previous January target for City, are also named as potential options, indicating a broad search for a specialist in the position.
Newcastle's financial position, which remains under scrutiny regarding Profit and Sustainability Rules, could make them more open to a major sale, though they would be reluctant to lose a key player to a domestic competitor. Livramento's acquisition would represent a shift in strategy for City, who have not employed a traditional, first-choice right-back since the departure of Kyle Walker, who is now 35. Securing a long-term solution in that area is viewed as a crucial step in refreshing an ageing squad that has seen significant investment in recent years.
The pursuit forms part of a wider midfield and attacking rebuild also being considered at the Etihad. The same report lists Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson and Morgan Gibbs-White, Newcastle's Sandro Tonali, and Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton as midfield targets, while Bayer Leverkusen striker Christian Kofane is being monitored. For the immediate right-back vacancy, however, Livramento appears to be the name at the top of the list as planning for the summer market intensifies.
