Manchester United have identified Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni as their primary target to replace Casemiro, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The club is seeking a long-term solution in midfield following Casemiro’s departure, and view the French international as a potential successor.
Romano explained that United internally consider Tchouaméni a “dream” midfield target, believing he possesses the qualities to replicate the impact Casemiro had at Old Trafford. However, securing his signature will be difficult, as Real Madrid currently have no intention of selling a player expected to be central to their future plans under Jose Mourinho.
Tchouaméni joined Real Madrid in 2022, and while his recent form has been inconsistent – data from SciSports ranking him 56th of 97 midfielders in La Liga last season – United remain highly interested. This contrasts with Casemiro’s strong performance in the Premier League, where he ranked third among 95 midfielders.
Despite the statistical disparity in recent performance, there are stylistic similarities between the two players, both capable of contributing in both defensive and attacking phases. However, Tchouameni has demonstrated less defensive leadership than Casemiro, potentially due to the absence of Toni Kroos in Madrid’s midfield. Real Madrid may be willing to consider offers exceeding €80 million for the 24-year-old, whose Estimated Transfer Value currently stands at €69.4 million.
SciSports’ Career Advice tool indicates a “Club Fit” of 71 for Tchouaméni at Manchester United, suggesting he would likely develop well within Michael Carrick’s system and receive adequate playing time, though calculations currently factor in Casemiro’s presence. The primary question mark revolves around how well Tchouaméni will adapt to Carrick’s tactical approach. Other midfield options being considered by United include Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba, but Tchouaméni remains the priority.
