Manchester United and Atletico Madrid are both monitoring Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado, with the 22-year-old expected to leave the Catalan club this summer, according to reports in Spain.
Casado experienced a frustrating 2025/26 season, despite Barcelona retaining their LaLiga title. He started just twice in the Champions League and ten times in LaLiga, playing less than 1,400 minutes across all competitions. This limited playing time follows a previous decision to remain at Barcelona despite opportunities to seek a starting role elsewhere.
Both Atletico Madrid and Manchester United previously expressed interest in Casado during the January transfer window. While he ultimately stayed at Barcelona, a mutual agreement has now reportedly been reached for his departure. Barcelona are seeking to generate funds through player sales to facilitate their own summer transfer business, while Casado is keen to find a club where he will feature more regularly.
Mundo Deportivo reports that Casado is particularly attracted to the prospect of joining Atletico Madrid, having been impressed by their approach in January. However, Manchester United remain firmly in the race, maintaining contact with the player through superagent Jorge Mendes. Mendes is said to have a strong relationship with the club, potentially giving United an advantage in negotiations.
Bayer Leverkusen, with a strong Spanish contingent due to CEO Fernando Carro, and Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal are also reportedly interested in Casado. Al-Hilal’s interest is particularly noteworthy as Barcelona are currently in discussions with the club regarding a permanent deal for Joao Cancelo.
While a specific transfer fee has not been disclosed, Casado’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €24.2 million. Manchester United are aiming to bolster their midfield significantly this summer, and Casado represents a potentially shrewd acquisition given his age and potential. His arrival would add depth and competition to the squad as they look to improve on their recent performances.
