Olympique de Marseille have expressed interest in Lille manager Bruno Genesio, according to a report in L’Équipe. Genesio’s current contract with Lille is set to expire this summer, and his chances of remaining at the club are considered slim.
Genesio arrived at Lille in 2024 and has overseen two consecutive qualifications for European competition, most recently guiding the club to a fifth Champions League qualification in their history. Lille finished the recent Ligue 1 season on a 13-match unbeaten run, securing their place in the Champions League group stage. This strong finish is largely attributed to Genesio’s impact on the team.
However, the report suggests that Genesio is experiencing personal fatigue, having recently suffered a personal loss. He has not yet informed the Lille players of his potential departure, despite a team barbecue held on Monday. Marseille are reportedly keen to capitalise on the situation and offer Genesio a new challenge.
Genesio previously managed Stade Rennais before joining Lille, establishing himself as a respected figure in French football. His tactical approach and ability to improve team performance have drawn praise from within Ligue 1. Should he move to Marseille, it would represent a significant appointment for the club as they look to strengthen their position amongst France's elite. The potential move could signal a shift in managerial direction for Marseille, potentially bringing a more measured and tactical approach to the club.
