AC Milan have identified 18-year-old Konstantinos Karetsas of Genk as a key transfer target, with the Belgian club reportedly demanding a fee of €40 million. The development comes as Milan continue to reshape their squad under new management, having already secured the signings of Gonçalo Ramos and Mario Gila this summer.
Milan’s interest in Karetsas dates back to November 2023, when technical director Geoffrey Moncada scouted the player during a Europa League match between Braga and Genk. Karetsas, a left-footed attacking midfielder, impressed with two assists in a 4-3 victory for Genk, showcasing his playmaking ability. He finished the season with 16 assists across all competitions, attracting attention from several top European clubs.
Genk recently rejected a €30 million bid from Borussia Dortmund for Karetsas and subsequently offered the player a contract extension until June 2029, strengthening their negotiating position. Dimitri De Condé, Head of Football at Genk, acknowledged the interest from major clubs but stated the club is under no immediate pressure to sell, valuing the player at around €40 million. De Condé also noted Karetsas is currently recovering from a recent ankle injury but is in good form.
To facilitate a move for Karetsas, Milan may need to generate funds through player sales. Portuguese forward Rafael Leao has reportedly expressed a desire to leave the club, but no suitable offers have materialized. Galatasaray have shown interest, proposing a substantial contract to Leao, but have not yet engaged in negotiations with Milan regarding a transfer fee. Leao himself is currently unconvinced by a move to Turkey. Milan are also reportedly monitoring 16-year-old defender Sankhoun Diawara from Troyes, though he is viewed as a potential addition for the club’s youth setup.
