Milan will see nine players return to the club this summer following the conclusion of their loan spells, presenting a significant challenge for the incoming sporting director, according to reports in Italy. The returning group includes established players like Ismael Bennacer and promising youngsters such as Christian Comotto.
Ismael Bennacer’s loan at Dinamo Zagreb failed to revitalize his career, with the Croatian club opting not to exercise their €10 million purchase option. Milan will again be responsible for his €4 million net salary, creating a financial burden. The club is reportedly exploring a mutual termination of his contract, which expires next year, to allow the 28-year-old Algerian midfielder to find a new club. Despite being a key signing for Milan in 2019 under Zvonimir Boban, Bennacer has struggled for form in recent seasons.
Yunus Musah is also set to return from his loan spell at Atalanta, where he made limited appearances. The €24 million purchase option is unlikely to be triggered, and the American international was also left out of the recent Argentina squad. The new Milan coach will assess Musah’s suitability for the team, particularly with the prospect of Europa League football in the 2026-27 season.
Filippo Terracciano, whose team was relegated, and Warren Bondo, who spent time at Cremonese, are also due back at Milanello, though their futures remain uncertain. Samu Chukwueze’s situation is more complex, with Fulham holding a €26 million option to buy. Fulham are open to keeping Chukwueze, but only if Milan are willing to negotiate the price, given the winger’s inconsistent performances. His role could depend on the tactical approach of the next Milan coach.
Several younger players are also returning. Francesco Camarda will be re-signed from Lecce for €4 million, but his development stalled during his loan spell. Kevin Zeroli had limited opportunities at Monza and Juve Stabia, and another loan move is likely. Christian Comotto, who made 28 appearances for Spezia, has shown promise and will join the first-team squad for pre-season. Alphadjo Cissé, signed from Verona in January and then loaned to Catanzaro, suffered a serious injury but is recovering and will arrive at Milanello for the first time this summer. His future at the club remains unclear.
These returns present Milan with a series of decisions regarding player sales, contract negotiations, and squad planning as they prepare for the upcoming season.
