Monaco are poised to complete a deal for Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado, moving ahead of several Premier League clubs including Manchester United in the pursuit of the Spain international. According to TEAMtalk, Monaco have made the most decisive move to date and are working to finalise a transfer worth in excess of £20million.
Barcelona are anticipating a busy summer of squad restructuring under new manager Hansi Flick, and Casado has emerged as a likely departure as the club seeks to generate funds and create space for new signings. The 22-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season at Camp Nou last year, making over 30 appearances as Barcelona secured the LaLiga title, though fewer than half of those were starts.
Casado is reportedly keen to find a club where he will feature more regularly, a factor that has significantly boosted Monaco’s chances. Several Premier League teams – Manchester United, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Everton and Crystal Palace – have all held discussions regarding a potential move for the midfielder in recent weeks, but none submitted a formal offer. Chelsea were also interested, but their inability to guarantee consistent first-team opportunities hampered their pursuit.
Monaco have presented Casado with a clear pathway to regular football and a prominent role in their project, which has proven persuasive for the player. The prospect of playing in the Principality and becoming a key figure in their midfield has convinced Casado that this move represents the best step forward in his career. Barcelona are expected to continue offloading players as they prepare for further additions this summer, with Casado now appearing to be one of the first to leave.
