Napoli are preparing for an active summer transfer window, with defensive reinforcement and youthful additions high on their list of priorities. The club is reportedly pursuing Lazio centre-back Mario Gila as a potential replacement for departing veteran Juan Jesus, according to reports in the Italian press.
Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis is keen to avoid overspending, particularly given the financial implications of previous transfer dealings. Approximately eighty million euros is expected to be recouped through player sales, which will influence the club’s spending power. Giovanni Manna, Napoli’s sporting director, will be tasked with identifying targets and negotiating deals, with a clearer picture emerging after Champions League qualification is secured and discussions with incoming coach Antonio Conte are held.
Gila, 26, fits the profile of player Napoli are seeking: a physically imposing defender with experience in Serie A. He is also reportedly a target for AC Milan, which could complicate negotiations. Lazio president Claudio Lotito is known as a tough negotiator, and De Laurentiis will likely face a challenging task in securing a reasonable fee for the Spaniard, whose contract expires in twelve months.
Beyond Gila, Napoli are also exploring options on the flanks. Israeli winger Anan Khalaili, currently at Union Saint-Gilloise, is considered a strong candidate. The 22-year-old has impressed with his pace and goal-scoring ability, but the Belgian club is demanding a fee of 25 million euros. Napoli are attempting to negotiate a lower price, with Manna reportedly sending “subliminal messages” to facilitate a deal.
Further bolstering the squad with young talent is also a priority. Napoli are reportedly interested in Kerim Alajbegovic, a 19-year-old Bosnian winger who has shown promise at international level. They are also monitoring Udinese’s Atta, 23, whose impressive performances have attracted attention, although his 40 million euro valuation may prove prohibitive. The club’s strategy is to blend experience with youth, ensuring both competitiveness and long-term sustainability.
