Newcastle United are preparing to reignite their interest in signing Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson this summer, according to sources close to the club. The Magpies are seeking a proven striker after a disappointing season from their current attacking options, with Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa scoring only 14 goals between them following the club-record sale of Alexander Isak to Liverpool.
Jackson, currently on loan at Bayern Munich, is expected to return to Chelsea at the end of the season after the German champions opted against activating a permanent purchase option reported to be worth over £55 million. The 24-year-old Senegal international has scored 10 goals in 29 appearances for Bayern, primarily in a supporting role behind Harry Kane. His potential availability has alerted several clubs, with sources indicating Newcastle, Tottenham Hotspur, and Everton are keen, while AC Milan and Juventus are also monitoring the situation.
The move is driven by Newcastle's urgent need for a reliable goalscorer. The club invested over £120 million in Woltemade and Wissa, but their output has fallen far short of Isak's prolific contributions in previous seasons. Manager Eddie Howe is determined to bolster his frontline to improve upon a campaign where the team's attacking shortcomings have been a significant issue.
However, Newcastle's pursuit may face a complication. Sources revealed on April 26 that Bayern Munich could reconsider a permanent move for Jackson if Chelsea significantly lowers their asking price. Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl, has been impressed with Jackson's adaptation and impact, viewing him as a strong fit for the squad. While formal talks are on hold, this leaves a potential opening for the Bundesliga side to re-enter the race later in the window.
Jackson's agent, Diomansy Kamara, stated his client is currently focused on finishing the season strongly with Bayern, who are in the Champions League semi-finals. In a social media post, Kamara emphasized that Jackson's future remains open, saying, "The future… who can predict? Trust the Process, Everything Is Possible." For Newcastle, securing a player of Jackson's profile would represent a major step in addressing a critical weakness as they plan for the upcoming season.
